Black suede ankle boots with a stiletto heel, open toe, and black rhinestone trim running the edges. Gold zip up the back. The suede is soft and worn in, scuffed where it should be, showing every hour they've had on my feet. Suede holds onto things differently to leather or patent. It doesn't seal, it absorbs. The fibres take everything in and keep it close.
I wear these barefoot. My toes sit right at the opening, visible, pressed together where the boot narrows. The peep toe means the warmth builds inside while the front stays open just enough to let you see what's doing the work. It's a tease built into the design. Everything sealed behind suede except the one part I'm choosing to show you.
The gold zips catch the light from behind. The rhinestone trim lines the edges like something worth paying attention to. But it's the inside of these boots that tells the real story. The insoles have taken my shape. The lining is warm and used. The suede has softened exactly where my feet have pressed into it night after night.
