Open toe means the foot is exposed at the front while the cork insole presses up against the bare sole all day. Cork is absorbent. Unlike patent or rubber there is no sealed surface here. The insole takes everything the foot gives it directly, warmth and sweat pressing down into the cork with every step, softening it, marking it, leaving the shape of my foot worked into the material over hours of wear. The toe prints are visible. The ball of the foot has left its mark. The heel cup carries everything that pools there on a warm day.
The slingback buckles around bare skin at the ankle. The strap has been worn against the back of the foot all day, the leather softening exactly where it sat. The wedge lifts the heel, shifts the weight forward onto the toe strap and the ball of the foot, which means that's where the pressure and the heat concentrate most.
